Pa.
reduces price to $20 for list of registered voters
HARRISBURG
- The price
of a list of registered Pennsylvania voters - an important tool for campaign
strategists and anyone who wants to reach those eight million or so people -
has been slashed from more than $1,300 to $20.
The
State Department is now charging the flat $20 fee for the entire statewide list
or any number of county lists. Previously the cost was $20 per county, or
$1,340 for a list of all 67 counties. The "full voter export" lists,
available only in electronic form on compact discs, include each voter's name,
sex, birth date, political party, residential address, mailing address and
polling place.
State
Department officials said yesterday that the price change was made possible by
new computer software, and not forced by a Commonwealth Court lawsuit that
sought to limit the fee under the state's Right-to-Know Law. "The cost has
always been based on what our costs were to produce the reports," said
department spokeswoman Leslie Amoros.
Stephanie
Frank Singer, the plaintiff in the lawsuit and managing partner of Campaign
Scientific LLC, a Philadelphia consulting firm, dropped her lawsuit after the
price was reduced. Anyone may request a list through an application with the
State Department's Bureau of Commissions, Elections and Legislation, Amoros
said. - AP
